Apple retail floor shift, stock suggest MacBook Air update [U]

updated 02:13 pm EDT, Mon April 28, 2014

Data doesn't point to large design change in new machines

[Updated with 13-inch Air specs] Potentially confirming reports of a Tuesday launch for new MacBook Air models, sources are saying that Apple stores are in receipt of large quantities of new machines. Additionally, Apple stores are reportedly scheduled to shuffle the retail floor layout to focus on the new release prior to opening Tuesday morning.

MacNN has confirmed the retail floor realignment for tomorrow, but wasn't able to confirm reports of stock arrival in a quantity that would herald a major new release. Other apocryphal information suggests a minor update, which the lack of mass shipment information to Apple stores seems to bear out.

Rumors are circulating of the new models bearing Intel's latest batch of fourth-generation Haswell processors, as well as differences in SSD configurations. No casing design change is expected in this iteration of the hardware.

Update: A label for the base 13-inch Air shows only an upgrade to a 1.4GHz Core i5, with Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz. The current model is clocked at 1.3GHz and boosts to 2.6GHz.
