VLC for iOS updated, adds folders, more options
Free media player VLC has updated its iOS ported app today, offering various fixes and new features. Users can play most video file formats, and do so without the need for conversion. File synchronization with Dropbox, GDrive, iTunes, direct download and through an embedded web upload is also permitted by the app.
Version 2.3.0 also adds support for password-protected HTTP streams, as well as .m4b, .caf, .oma, .w64 audio and .mxg video files. Users now have the option to disable playback control gestures and use bold subtitles. Translations are now available in Latvian, Romanian and British English. The update includes fixes for Serial FTP and Twonky UPnP server downloads, playback functionality, miscellaneous crash issues and more. VLC v2.3.0 is available free for iPhone and iPad on iTunes, and requires iOS 6.1 or later.
DevonTechnologies releases updates for all editions of DevonThink, DevonNote, DevonAgent
DevonTechnologies has released a series of updates for its productivity software, including new versions of DevonThink, DevonAgent and DevonNote. DevonThink v2.7.5 adds the ability to render MultiMarkdown alongside its existing support for Markdown, meaning it can add simple formatting to text without relying on platform-specific file formats. Tagging is improved, and the workspace layout is more reliable. The Pro versions' databases can now be closed in a single click, and email messages dragged into DevonThink Pro Office from Apple Mail maintain dates and unread statuses.
Search engine software DevonAgent v3.8.0 focuses on plug-ins, with its "smart research assistant" functions that connect to search engines, and feature improved language awareness. Users can enter a keyword and a search item into its address bar, and the app selects results based on preferred language. A newly included plug-in performs Amazon searches for available products, again in one's preferred language. JSON data is also now accepted by search plug-ins. Free trial versions are available for all DevonTechnologies' products, with pricing beginning at $50 for DevonThink Personal, $25 for DevonNote, and DevonAgent Lite is free.
