New Apple retail chief Ahrendts may not join until June

updated 11:13 am EDT, Thu April 17, 2014

Transition to Apple may depend on compensation promises

Future Apple retail head Angela Ahrendts may actually remain the CEO of Burberry until June, says The Guardian. Although Ahrendts has finished a mandatory six-month wait and is technically free to switch this month, she has allegedly promised to stay with Burberry until at least June 6th to ease the transition to her replacement, chief creative officer Christopher Bailey. She also has a strong financial incentive, since she could earn a bonus of as much as £8M (about $13.5 million) if she makes it to the 6th.

The Guardian suggests, though, that the lack of a formal departure date is connected to negotiations with Apple and Burberry over the June payout. In theory that could mean Ahrendts might leave sooner, but only a little over a month and a half is left in her Burberry tenure regardless.

We'll see how moral a company Burberry is when we get closer to June 6th. I could see many companies letting her go on June 5th so they wouldn't have to pay out the bonus.

As she's the CEO, I suspect its actually up to her. :)
