iOS release was initially restricted to smaller regions
The iPad version of Blizzard's card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is now available at App Stores worldwide. The app was actually released for the iPad earlier this month, but only in the form of a soft launch at the Australian, Canadian, and New Zealand App Stores. Mac and PC versions of Hearthstone have been available for some time.
The game is similar in concept to Magic: The Gathering, in that players duel an opponent using cards representing spells and minions. Hearthstone tends to be faster-paced however, and gamers can sync decks between the iPad and desktop versions via Battle.net. Basic play against human and AI opponents is free; gamers can optionally pay for card bundles, as well as access to a special Arena mode, where prizes are handed out.
The iPad app requires iOS 5 or later. Arena admission is $2, while card bundles can cost anywhere between $2 for two to $50 for 40.
