Apple says move in keeping with official policies

UK-based streaming service has been banned from advertising on Apple's iAd network due to it being competition with iTunes Radio, according to Bloom PR representatives. Until recently, Bloom was spending £2,000 per month on iAd spots. In rejecting the advertising, Apple is quoted as telling Bloom that it constituted "a competitive service to iTunes Radio and it is against Apple policy."

iTunes Radio has yet to launch in the UK. The ban could, in fact, be a sign that Apple is on the verge of a British expansion, since it regularly cracks down on competition before it introduces a product or service of its own.

Traditionally though the company has enforced bans against software in the App Store, rather than advertising. Targeting higher-profile parties like Bloom could potentially put a chill on iAd, given that alternative advertisers like Google have fewer restrictions.
