Apple implementing push notifications of user-reported Maps errors

updated 10:24 am EDT, Wed April 9, 2014

Program seems to be in testing, wide deployment unknown

Apple is in the process of testing a new Maps error-reporting feature. Reports are surfacing that when users note errors in Apple's Maps iOS app, they given the option to receive a push notification when the error is rectified. Implementation is spotty, but has been reproduced in part by MacNN.

A user at MacRumors had reported an error to Apple on April 6, and was given the option to get the notification. Apple sent a response, indicating the fix on April 8.

Perusal of online reports of the Apple Maps error-fix notification messaging seem to be limited to US users, where Apple's "Ground Truth" operatives are more prevalent. There are no indications if the feature will be widely deployed, or when implementation might be expected.

Considering the fact that I have repeatedly reported the same bug since September 2012 and Apple has done absolutely NOTHING to fix it, I doubt this feature will add much value. Let's face it, Apple just does not have their stuff together when it comes to their Map program.

My residential neighborhood is labeled as a horticultural research center that does not exist. I have reported it numerous times from withing the app on both my iPhone, and iPad, but Apple has done nothing about it. You can clearly see that this is a neighborhood with streets and houses, but none the less, its labeled as a horticultural research center.
