G502 gaming mouse includes adjustable weights, free-wheeling scroll wheel

Logitech has unveiled a new and highly customizable gaming mouse. The G502 Proteus Core Tunable Gaming Mouse is claimed to be the first to use a 12,000dpi sensor to track its position, which when combined with other features, allows the user to heavily personalize the mouse depending on what they're playing and what kind of surface they are using.

The sensor can be set to use a DPI between 200 and the maximum 12,000 with zero sensor acceleration and no pixel rounding, giving it the ability to track movement at 300 inches per second. The sensor can be calibrated with the gaming surface, allowing it to work on both hard and soft surfaces of varying colors and materials while offering a minimal lift-off distance.

The way the mouse feels can also be altered, thanks to a collection of weights. Five 3.6g weights are included and can be placed in a number of positions, changing the center of gravity. A total of 11 programmable buttons appear on the G502, managed by a 32-bit ARM processor used to control macros stored on the mouse itself, with each key using mechanical micro-switches for enhanced speed and accuracy. The scroll wheel is also usable in two different ways, with its "click-to-click" movement able to be disabled in favor of a free-spinning mode.

Logitech is shipping the G502 in the United States and Europe this month, priced at $80.
