Enhances hardware, software support
Autodesk has revealed Smoke 2015, the next edition of its video editing software. Upgrades this time around include an overhauled Timeline FX system, with added effects options including direct access to Action 3D compositing. A new 3D Tracker tool matches visual effects to camera movements, such as layers, text, or 3D objects.
Hardware and software support has also been enhanced. Smoke is now better integrated with Final Cut Pro X, supporting more timeline and effects metadata, making it easier to share projects; Smoke edits can in fact be exported as XML documents with matching QuickTime media files. Hardware-wise, Autodesk has improved support for Blackmagic DesignLink and UltraStudio for Thunderbolt devices, and brought extended video IO to AJA, allowing dual-stream stereoscopic output.
Smoke 2015 will be sold via monthly, quarterly, and annual subscription plans beginning on May 8th. Autodesk hasn't announced pricing, but says that going annual will save an outfit over $500 versus paying month-to-month.
