Snow Leopard users get separate version but continued support
Late on Thursday, Apple updated its drivers for Xerox printers, print servers and its WorkCentre line. The new version, 3.0.1, covers updated drivers for OS X Lion (10.7), Mountain Lion (10.8) and Mavericks (10.9). Release simultaneously but separately was version 2.3 for Snow Leopard (10.6) only. The drivers update support for existing models and add support for new Xerox products, and the two versions are identical in terms of what products they support.
All existing Xerox drivers have been updated in the latest version, but the two editions add support for the Xerox Color 570 FFPS and Color 570 XC; the Color 8250 Production Printer; the D136 Copier-Printer, D136 Copier-Printer FFPS and the D136 Printer FFPS; the Phaser 3610, WorkCentre 3615 and the WorkCentre 7220 and 7225 models. All the individual drivers (along with the previously-supported models' drivers) have been updated to v3.51.
The "combo" version of the updates, available on Apple's Support Downloads page, shows file sizes of 77.9MB for the Snow Leopard update, and 66MB for the 10.7 and higher file. "Delta" updates of just the drivers already in use by customers can be found by using Software Update. The update for Snow Leopard could be among the last such releases for the nearly four-year-old OS version; Apple has been slowly winding down support for it as users buy newer machines and its user base dwindles.
