updated 11:47 pm EDT, Tue April 1, 2014

New drives available in up to 1TB capacity, boast 500MB/sec transfers

DRAM modules and NAND Flash manufacturer Adata today announced the launch of the Premier Pro series SP920 solid state drive (SSD). The SP920 comes in a 2.5-inch form factor, and is equipped with the latest generation Marvell controller, implementing the SATA III 6Gb per second specification.

The SP920 is designed for high performance across a wide range of applications. Its 4KB random read-write speeds are as high as 98,000/88,000 IOPS, with sequential read and write speeds of up to 560/500 MB per second.

The initial launch of 128GB and 256GB capacities will be followed by increases of 512GB and a 1TB model shortly thereafter. The SP920 makes full use of the NAND flash chip capacity, resulting in a seven percent increase in the usable space of the drive over many models currently on the market. For those looking to upgrade from a mechanical hard disk, the SP920 comes with a 2.5mm holder, which allows the drive to be used in both 7mm & 9.5mm notebook bays, as well as a 3.5-inch bracket for upgrading desktop computers.

The 128GB version of the SP920 will retail for $90. The 256GB and 512GB models will retail for $160 and $335 respectively. When available, the 1TB SSD will sell for $530.
