Apple updates Safari to 7.0.3/6.1.3, adds enhanced push notifications

updated 08:22 pm EDT, Tue April 1, 2014

Includes direct support for new top-level domains for Mavericks, Mountain Lion

Alongside updates for the iWork apps for iCloud, OS X and iOS, Apple on Tuesday released version 7.0.3 (for Mavericks) and 6.1.3 (for Mountain Lion) of its Safari browser. The new release, which only had two betas released to developers before going final, adds enhanced push notification settings and direct support for some new top-level domains (which could previously only be accessed through a search). The update also addresses a few credit card autofill and security issues.

In prior versions of Safari that supported website push notifications, users were asked once if they wanted to allow such notices. The update allows users to easily disable all incoming push attempts temporarily or permanently, as well as fixing an issue that could block push notices that users wanted.

The latest Safari now directly supports websites using the new top-level domains, such as .club, .guru, .photography and some 700 more. Now, clicking on or typing in such URLs will take users directly to the sites rather than initiating a search. Finally, the new release brings bug fixes, including issues with credit card autofill and websites loading before users have finished a search term in the address field, as well as further security fixes.

Mountain Lion and Mavericks users (10.8 and 10.9, respectively) will see the updated Safari in Software Update. It will also shortly available for direct download from Apple's support website.
