Pair of compact cameras launching in May, June for $350, $400

Olympus has unveiled a pair of compact digital cameras. The Stylus SH-1 point-and-shoot camera uses a similar five-axis image stabilization system to the one employed by the E-M1 and others, while the Stylus Tough TG-3 is a ruggedized shooter that is able to alter the photographs it takes thanks to the use of screw-on lens attachments.

The Stylus SH-1 offers a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor combined with the TruePic VII image processor and an f/3-6.9, 25-600mm-equivalent lens proving a 24x optical zoom. Image sensitivity on the camera maxes out at ISO 6400, with shutter speed hitting 1/2000 and an 11fps burst mode, with the Stylus SH-1 also having a rear 3-inch 460k-dot LCD, Wi-Fi connectivity, face detection, 1080p video recording at 60fps, and high-speed 120fps and 240fps modes at lower resolutions.

The Stylus Tough TG-3 is waterproof to a depth of 50 feet, is crushproof by up to 220 pounds of force, can survive drops of up to 7 feet in height, and can shrug off temperatures as low as 14 Fahrenheit. Using a similar combination of a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor with the TruePic VII, it also offers ISO of up to 6,400, 5fps shooting, Wi-Fi connectivity, 1080p video recording, and a rear 3-inch 460K-dot display. Its f/2-4.9 25-100mm lens provides 4x optical zoom, along with a 2x "Super Resolution" zoom and 4x digital zoom, with screw-on teleconverter and fisheye lenses adding more imaging options, as well as a new LED ring light to help with macro photography.
