No word on whether Cook, Gül will be present
The Zorlu Center Apple Store in Istanbul, Turkey will officially open April 5th at 10AM local time, according to Apple. The launch is one day later than a local report suggested. The same report also claimed that Apple CEO Tim Cook and Turkish President Abdullah Gül would attend the opening, but Cook rarely appears at Apple Stores, and might not want to be seen alongside Gül given Prime Minister Recep Erdoğan's attempts at blocking Twitter and YouTube to silence news about his government's corruption scandal.
An anonymous source says that in order to be staffed for launch, Apple has brought in workers from distant regions like the US. Such a practice isn't uncommon for the company; for the launch of the first Berlin Apple Store, it brought in workers from as far away as Boston.
