Head, arm-mounted Panasonic camera offers 200fps video function

Panasonic has revealed its first wearable camera capable of recording 4K-resolution video. The HX-A500 is unusual in its design, consisting of the camera sensor attached to an earpiece connected to an armband-mounted main unit instead of a self-contained box like the GoPro range, with the camera and unit weighing 31 grams and 119 grams (1.1 ounces and 4.2 ounces) respectively.

The camera sensor can be completely controlled by the main unit, which also includes a 1.5-inch LCD monitor for quick playback of footage, and an optional Wi-Fi connection to a smartphone or tablet with NFC pairing for editing and sharing video. Waterproof at a depth of 3 meters (9.8 feet) for 30 minutes and dust-proof, it can capture the 4K footage at 25fps, 1080p video at 50fps, 100fps for 720p video, and 200fps at a resolution of 848x480. The HX-A500 also includes leveling correction, lessening the impact of tilted recordings, as well as image stabilization for minimal blurring.

Just as with other sports cameras, Panasonic is offering a range of accessories for the camera, allowing it to be mounted in different ways. In order to reduce noise generated in high-speed activities, such as driving a wind jammer attachment is also touted.

Launching in May in the United Kingdom, the HX-A500 will be priced at £380 ($630)
