Universal Type Server 4 update includes improved performances

Extensis has released a new update for Universal Type Server 4, a professional font server intended for organizations to manage, organize and distribute font libraries. Font distribution from the latest version is up to 27 times faster due to server performance enhancements, and its new client features include new Extensis Font Panels for Adobe Creative Suite and Creative Cloud applications, Fontspiration -- a component of Suitcase Fusion 5 -- and more QuickComp design templates that allow for easy typeface experimentation.

The update is free for current Universal Type Server 4 users, with a 30-day free trial download available for interested new users.

MonkeyBread Software FileMaker Plug-in 4.1 for OS X/Windows, Xojo/Real Studio plug-ins 14.1

MonkeyBread Software (MBS) has released several plug-in updates today, including revisions for FileMaker, Xojo and Real Studio. MBS Filemaker Plug-in 4.1 is available for both OS X and Windows platforms; its OS X update offers added menu commands for building menus with submenus and have it popup on screen relative to mouse or window.

Menus can be decorated with images, checkmarks or custom font styles. Its new cipher and digest functions allow users to create very flexible hashes or encrypted content that is compatible for other applications. Additional functions have been added for CoreLocation and DynaPDF, including querying tool improvements. The MBS FileMaker Plug-in is priced at $150.

Updates to MBS Xojo and Real Studio plug-ins bring the latest version to 14.1. Comprising a collection of several plug-in parts, the plug-in extends the Real Studio development environment with 2,000 classes, and feature over 51,000 documented functions.

Highlights of v14.1's update include the addition of MapKit classes, using a framework that is available for 32- and 64-bit applications, and uses Google Maps internally. The plug-in can then be later updated to either use Google or Apple map services once Xojo builds the 64-bit applications. Improved support for proxies is featured; for Mac users, the plug-in has a CFProxyMBS class that allows for querying the current system proxy settings and assists in detecting auto-configuring URLs, as well as parsing configuration scripts. Plug-in licenses are available for components of the complete collection, with pricing beginning at $30 for one component, and a commercial usage package priced at $300.
