Microsoft's Xbox 360 'pilot experiment' apparently ends in failure

Microsoft has pulled the plug on its subsidized Xbox 360 program. The program, which offered a $99 Xbox 360 for users that agreed to pay $15 per month for Xbox Live, Microsoft's online gaming service, emulated similar subsidized programs for cellphones. Microsoft spokesman David Dennis confirmed the program's discontinuation, saying that "this program was intended to be a pilot experiment from the start, and Microsoft routinely adjusts the mix of offers available to its customers and this change was simply standard business practice." The program was never extended to the next-generation Xbox One.

Valve details new Steam Controller, without front-mounted touchscreen

Valve has officially unveiled the new Steam Controller prototype, minus the touchscreen. The new controller has two "analog pads," similar in functionality to conventional analog joysticks, eight face buttons, and pause and select buttons above the face buttons. Shoulder buttons and triggers remain the same as the previous prototype. A previous version of the controller shipped with Valve's Steam Box prototypes at the end of 2013.
