Amazon-branded controller spotted, Android game console imminent?

updated 11:59 am EDT, Fri March 14, 2014

Controller similar to OnLive controller, sports Android control buttons

An Amazon-branded game controller with Android buttons has popped up in Brazilian regulatory documents. The controller resembles the OnLive controller, and has a pair of offset Analog sticks, a directional pad, a pair of triggers, two shoulder buttons, a diamond-oriented ABXY button configuration, as well as the standard back, home, and menu buttons common to Android devices.

The pictured device, with clear Amazon markings, lends credence to earlier rumors of the online retailer's intentions to develop and sell an Ouya-like Android gaming console. Other efforts in this space have resulted in limited financial success, despite wildly-successful Kickstarter campaigns.

Amazon's Appstore for Android would presumably supply games for the console, probably requiring specific versions for the console. A similar model of software distribution is currently in play with its Kindle line of tablets, requiring all purchases for the tablet come from Amazon -- barring jailbreak efforts by the user.
