Snow Leopard and later included, adds support for new models
On Thursday, Apple refreshed its printer drivers covering Epson and Xerox printers -- likely to be the first of a fresh batch of printer and scanner driver updates -- for Macs running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and later. Though the company is slowly winding down support for 10.6, the four-year-old OS continues to get selected security, iTunes/QuickTime and printer driver updates for the time being. Today's release both updates existing drivers and adds support for new models.
The Epson combo update (version 2.17), available from the support section of Apple's website, weighs in at 1.19GB in total, but most users will receive "delta" updates that apply only to the Epson printers or scanners already installed or recently added through the use of Software Update. As with the Xerox version, the combo and delta updates cover OS X 10.6 all the way up to the most recent release of Mavericks, 10.9.2.
The Epson updates adds support for the E-370 and E-840 printers; the EP-306, -706A, -776A, -806A, -906F and -976A3 devices; the LP-M8040 printer; the PX-046A and PX-436A series of printer/scanner units; the all-in-one PX-M5040F, -M5041F, -M740F, -M741F, -S5040 and -S740 line; the Epson Stylus Photo R330 printer; the AIO WF-3620, WF-3640, WF-7110, WF-7610 and WF-7620; and the printer/scanner XP-510, -610, -710, -810 and -950 series. It also updates drivers for the entire existing Epson ES, Expression, GT and Perfection scanner lineups, as well as the singular F-3200 scanner; the Stylus Photo P50 printer and Stylus Photo PX650 printer/scanner; and the Stylus Photo T50, T60 and TX650.
The Xerox combo update is only 66MB by comparison, yet adds new support for a huge rash of printers -- including the 700 and 770 Digital Color Press; the Color 550 FFPS, 550 XC, 560 FFPS, 560 XC, C75 Press and J75 Press; the entire ColorQube line; all of the D110, D125 and D95 Copier-Printer and Printer models; the full DocuColor and FreeFlow printer lineup, including the print servers; the iGen3 and iGen4 line; the Nuvera EA DPS; all WC75xx printers and the full WorkCentre line. Also added was support for new Phaser models 3635MFP; the 4600 and 4620; the 6600N and DN; the 6700DN, DT, DX and N; the 7100N and DN; the 7500N, DN, DT and DX; and the 7800DN, DX and GX.
It also updated support for existing Phaser models, such as the 4510B, DT, DX and N; the 5550N, DT and DN; the 6300N and DN; the 6350DT, DP and DX; the 6360N, DN, DT and DX; the 7400N, DN, DT, DX and DXF; the 7750B, DN and DXF; the 7760DN, DX and GX; the 8500N, DN, DP, DT and DX; the 8560N, DN, DT, DX and MFP; and the 8860 and 8860MFP.
