Briefly: Xbox live outage on Titanfall launch, free iPad Quarriors

updated 10:44 pm EDT, Tue March 11, 2014

Xbox Live 'core services' crippled, unrelated to but affecting Titanfall launch

On the eve of the highly-anticipated Titanfall first-person shooter release, Microsoft's Xbox Live service is experiencing issues with the login process for some users. According to Larry Hyrb, Microsoft's "Major Nelson," the problems are not directly related to Titanfall, but some other connectivity issue related to "core services." Other Microsoft services, including Titanfall matchmaking, were still working during the outage. After three hours of downtime, at 11:00 EST, the problem was reported as resolved by Microsoft, and preliminary testing by Electronista confirmed Microsoft's report.

Quarriors adds in-app downloadable content, goes free for a week

Celebrating the release of iOS boardgame Quarriors downloadable content on March 12, the Quarriors base app will be free for a week (reduced from $4), starting when Apple updates the app's price on March 12 through some time on March 19. The game is billed by the developers as "uber-strategic hexahedron monster combat mayhem" and is available for the iPad only. The in-app downloadable content will sell for $2, and adds 40 new custom dice, six new creatures, and two new spells to the array already present in the game.
