SXSW: Facebook relaunches F8 developers' conference

updated 10:24 am EDT, Mon March 10, 2014

Large conference Facebook's first major show since September 2011

During a Facebook briefing at the SXSW festival, head of developer products Ilya Sukhar revealed that the company is holding a large F8 Developer Conference for the social media powerhouse on April 30. The developers-only conference will be held on April 30, and is likely to have over 1,500 coders in attendance.

This year, we're going back to our roots and having a pure developer conference," said Sukhar. The one-day conference will be both mobile and desktop-oriented. Sukhar noted that "F8 will open with a morning keynote, followed by four tracks that will cover getting-started guides, technical best practices, infrastructure strategies, engineering deep dives, and advertising tips for making your app or game highly successful."

Its last large developer's conference was held in 2011, and was primarily aimed at computer applications. Since then, the company's fortunes have shifted to mobile, and the vast majority of the company's resources were directed to that goal. Daily active users for the company exceeded 556 million on the average in December 2013, with mobile-based monthly active users hitting 945 million. Mobile advertising for the company was approximately 53 percent of its revenue, up from 23 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012.
