Apple TV 6.1 makes it easier to hide unwanted apps

Bypasses Parental Controls menu

In tandem with iOS 7.1, Apple has released new firmware for the Apple TV, v6.1. While a relatively minor update, the code adds the ability to hide unwanted apps, a frequently-requested feature. It was previously only possible to change visible apps by blocking them through the Parental Controls menu. 6.1 can be downloaded through the Apple TV Software Update system.

The issue of app clutter has become exacerbated in the past year as Apple has focused on adding more and more apps, which appear automatically on the Apple TV's homescreen, regardless of whether a person plans to use them. Apple is thought to be preparing an update to the set-top's software and hardware which could in theory improve the interface.

    Hiding unwanted apps never did require enabling Parental Controls. Even with them disabled, you could still access the app list to hide/show apps.
