Wello smartphone case tracks blood pressure, ECG, heart rate
Azoi has entered the health tracker market, by announcing a fitness-tracking smartphone cover that works with both iOS and Android devices. Wello contains a number of sensors on the side and back that take a snapshot of the user's vital signs after a few seconds of being held, with the results transferred wirelessly over Bluetooth 4.0 LE and recorded in a companion app.
The case is able to record the blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and blood oxygen levels of the wearer, with two contacts able to take an electrocardiography (ECG) reading. An accompanying spirometer is able to connect directly to the case for lung function monitoring, while an extra upgrade port allowing for Azoi to release further add-ons to record other bodily functions, such as glucose levels.
While it will initially ship in a case for the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5s, it will still work with Android devices as a standalone item, and as the main components are removable, it could be included in a separately-sold case for other smartphones. The supporting app will not only connect to the Wello and record results, but it will also apparently work with other fitness trackers, keeping track of measurements those other devices offer.
Pending FDA approval, the Wello aims to ship this fall for $199 in the United States, Canada, China, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and across Europe. The company will also be providing buyers of the Wello a referral URL, providing a $10 credit for each successive referral.
