Istanbul Apple Store to open April 4, with Cook, Gül present

updated 04:47 pm EST, Wed March 5, 2014

First Apple outlet in Turkey

The delayed grand opening of the Istanbul Apple Store will take place on April 4, says local site ElmaDergisi. The report further claims that Turkish President Abdullah Gül will be present, along with Apple CEO Tim Cook. Cook only rarely appears at Apple Stores, and it's even rarer for major government officials to inaugurate a location.

Turkey may warrant special attention, however. The Istanbul location will be the country's first Apple Store, and Apple has been angling for a contract to supply the country's schools with iPads, in a deal that could be worth $4 billion. Apple executives, including Cook, have met with Gül and other Turkish officials in the recent past.

They could just move some of the K-8 educational institution's computer-based labs/classrooms/activities/whatevers, and move them inside of the Apple store. That would maximize exposure of K-8 students to Apple's products/technology and keep them coming back for more.
