Work, hiring starts on first Apple Store in Dayton, Ohio

updated 10:18 am EST, Thu February 27, 2014

Outlet should be ready within months

Progress is already well underway toward the first Apple Store in Dayton, Ohio, reports say. The shop is replacing a former Lane Bryant at The Greene, an outdoor shopping center. A signature black construction facade has already been put in place there, and 12 job openings for a Dayton store have been posted on Apple's website. Sources for the Dayton Business Journal also point to The Greene, but neither permits nor construction workers are naming the mall's future tenant.

So far there are several Apple Stores in Ohio, located in Akron, Cincinnati, Columbus, Westlake, and Woodmere. Apple is planning to open 30 new retail stores worldwide in 2014, but only about a third of those will be based in the US. Given that the Dayton store is already under construction, it could be open within a matter of months.

And no one is saying how this will affect MacTown which was an independent Apple retailer for years- right around the corner, or MacDepot- an even older independent Apple dealer that's been around for over 20 years and is just down the street.
Apple will put these loyal local independent businesses out of business.

I'm amazed that Apple would even want to build a store in murdertown, Ohio. I just see store theft written all over this one.

But it'll get more business and more service than MacTown so it's smart strategy on the part of Apple, even though small businesses hate it, they'll have to live with the changes.
