Companion app adjusts settings to different locations
GN ReSound has officially launched the LiNX, its promised MFI-certified hearing aid. The unit connects wirelessly to an iPhone (or other iOS device), which with a companion iOS app can serve as a remote controlling volume and EQ settings, including presets. A unique feature is geofencing, which can automatically switch presets based on location, such as home or work. A Find My Hearing Aid option can help retrieve a lost LiNX.
ReSound is said to have worked closely with Apple to develop a purpose-built 2.4GHz protocol for communicating between iPhones and hearing aids, in this case supported by a new processor in the LiNX. The device also turns on and off efficiently, contributing to a battery life between five and six days.
The iOS integration not only does away with a dedicated remote but lets people listen to iOS audio as if it were a set of regular earbuds. Future aids with the technology will be available from both ReSound and sibling brand Beltone. To buy a unit, people must go through an audiologist.
