Report: Fix for sleep-wake issues on 2013 MBAs on the way

updated 12:10 am EST, Wed February 19, 2014

Will resolve crashes that happen when MacBook Air opened after sleep

A long-standing issue that affects some 2013 MacBook Air owners, where the machine will crash upon waking from sleep, is soon to be resolved, according to reports from Apple Support representatives. Allegedly, the problem resides in a sensor that detects when the lid is being opened to wake the machine. The fix, according to Apple Support, should make up part of the forthcoming 10.9.2 update which expected in March.

The issue has been plaguing 11- and 13-inch 2013 MacBook Air owners for months, judging from various threads on the Apple Support Forums. The problem can often be replicated by using the power button to put the MacBook Air to sleep, then quickly waking it up again with a key press or click on the trackpad. The fourth beta of OS X 10.9.2 made a changeto the way the power button functions, preventing the machine from going to sleep if accidentally pressed, and other fixes have likely been added in the betas that have come since.

Users in the Support Forums report that following a crash caused by the bug, a restart appears to clear up the issue for a prolonged period. The next Mavericks update is said to be coming out sometime next month.

Not for nothing, but we have also seen this on the 13" rMBP's... hopefully this "fix" will address that as well.
