New job openings for Apple TV crew focus on third-party content

New hires will support current, future content offerings

Recent Apple job listings suggest that the company is looking to improve its support of third-party content on the Apple TV, notes AppleInsider. One opening is for a "content partner engineer," expected to "provide technical support to external vendors as they integrate their content." This includes testing apps and streams, functioning as a liaison, and gathering feedback on possible platform features.

Another opening calls for a software QA engineer to work with both internal Apple TV engineers and third parties on diagnosing problems. Apple is also seeking an iTunes Store Apps engineering project manager, who will have to coordinate efforts within the Apple TV team as well as with external software and hardware engineers.

During the past year Apple has added a large number of channels/apps to the Apple TV. The company is believed to be developing a new set-top and interface, which could be announced as soon as April, even if a launch is only anticipated much later. Some rumored features include support for games and Bluetooth controllers, an integrated 802.11ac router, and/or a live TV interface for Time Warner Cable subscribers.
