HTC Desire 8 launching in China this month

HTC has confirmed the existence of its upcoming Desire 8 smartphone, via a teaser on the company's Weibo account, at the same time as a separate leak shows the apparently-metallic appearance to the HTC M8. The Desire 8 image states there will be a launch on February 24th in Beijing, China for the phablet, which is currently believed to have a 5.5-inch display, with the launch date hinting at a dual launch at the same time as the opening day of Mobile World Congress.

The Weibo teaser spotted by Engadget uses the same image as the one for the device leaked late last week. Though specifications for the device remain relatively unknown, earlier rumors claim it will have a rear 13-megapixel camera with flash, accompanied by a 5-megapixel front-facing version, but neither will use an Ultrapixel sensor. The earlier image also showed speaker holes above and below the display, and also appears to have a plastic body rather than a metal version.

A new photograph claims to show the HTC M8 will continue to have a metallic casing. The device in the image from has the same dual-camera layout of an earlier leak, though the dual flash LEDs have been slightly altered, suggesting this new image could be for a version of the device later down the production pipeline. Earlier rumors claim the HTC M8 will have a 1080p-or-greater display measuring at least five inches, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. It is also possible for the M8 to launch at Mobile World Congress.
