Budget LG smartphones announced ahead of Mobile World Congress

LG has unveiled three new smartphones that make up the third generation of its L-series device range, one week before Mobile World Congress. The L90, L70, and L40 are budget 3G smartphones running Android 4.4 with relatively similar specifications and physical designs, metallic frames, and will work with LG's Quick Window covers for notifications while protecting the display.

The L90 sports a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, behind a 4.7-inch 960x540 IPS display. On the back of the L90 is an 8-megapixel camera with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing counterpart, with power coming from a 2,540mAh battery.

The L70 has a 4.5-inch 800x400 IPS display and a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. A slightly smaller 2,100mAh battery is used in the L70, and while the rear camera will be either an 8-megapixel or 5-megapixel version depending on the market, the front camera will be a VGA-resolution model.

The smallest L40 uses a 480x320-resolution 3.5-inch display, and though it has the same processor and storage as the L70, it opts for 512MB of RAM. The 3-megapixel camera is the only imaging sensor on the device, and the battery will either have a capacity of 1,700mAh or 1,540mAh, again dependent on region.

LG did not reveal release dates or pricing for the L90, L70, and L40, but will probably offer more details next week.
