Marriott Hotels rolls out mobile check-out feature

Marriott Hotels is introducing a new mobile checkout feature, allowing its guests to check out of their room by using the Marriott Mobile App. As early as 4AM on the day of scheduled departure, guests will be notified on their smartphone that mobile check-out is available. App users provide their email address to receive their bill, and can leave room keys in the room. The new feature accompanies the already-available mobile check-in function that was launched last July on the Marriott Hotel app in the US and Canada. The Marriott Hotel app can be downloaded free for iOS and Android devices on iTunes and Google Play, respectively.

Select hotel locations are being used as test sites for future mobile services, such as facilitating customer requests for things such as bath amenities, pillows and more through a smartphone chat feature. The Marriott's mobile check-out feature has been initiated throughout its North American locations, and will be introduced for an additional 22 international hotel locations next week, with all worldwide locations featuring mobile check-in and check-out later this year.

Taco Bell to offer US-wide mobile ordering

Fast-food chain Taco Bell has been developing an app that will allow its guests to order food in advance, using their smartphone. Targeted towards the "Millennials" demographic, the app offers a varied opening message, dependent upon the time of day. Following to the menu, users can then find the nearest Taco Bell location and view specific pricing, hours and directions. Menu selections are customizable, and up-sell opportunities are presented. Users can save their favourite orders for future purchases. Payment can be facilitated by gift or credit card, with food prepared based on the user's GPS location and the estimated time of their arrival. Taco Bell's mobile ordering service is due to be released later this year.
