Phase-detection, contrast-detection AF help provide 11fps AF tracked shooting

One month after updating the α5000, Sony has launched another Alpha camera with what it claims uses the world's fastest autofocus in an interchangeable lens camera. The α6000 is able to focus on a subject in 0.06 seconds using Sony's Fast Hybrid AF system, consisting of a 179-point focal plane phase-detection AF sensor working with a contrast-detection AF.

Inside is a 24.3-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with a gapless-on-chip design, paired with the Bionz X image processor. This allows it to offer an image sensitivity of between ISO 100 and ISO 25,600, 11fps continuous shooting with AF tracking, and Hybrid AF when recording 1080p video at 60 or 24fps.

Seven customizable buttons on the housing, including two dedicated custom buttons, provide access to 43 assignable camera functions, while the 1,440k-dot electronic viewfinder is accompanied by a three-inch 921k-dot tiltable OLED display. Micro-HDMI, USB 2.0, a combined Memory Stick PRO Duo and SDXC memory card slot, hot shoe and built-in flash, and Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity to a smartphone app are also included.

Going on sale in April, the α6000 will be priced at $800 bundled with a 16-50mm lens, or $650 for the body alone.
