Samsung Galaxy S5 box leak hints at 2.5GHz processor, QHD display

updated 11:04 am EST, Wed February 12, 2014

Box allegedly confirms higher-specification Galaxy S5 rumors

Specifications for what could be the Samsung Galaxy S5 have leaked, in the form of a retail packaging photograph. An image claimed to show details of the internals of the device, expected to launch at Mobile World Congress at the end of this month, with a number of items listed apparently correlating with other specification rumors that recently surfaced.

The box from Dutch website SamsungGalaxyS5.nl appears to confirm the smartphone will have a 2.5GHz quad-core processor 3GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel AF rear camera with a 2-megapixel front-facing counterpart, and LTE connectivity. The display is listed as a 5.25-inch QHD (1440x2560) version, power comes from a 3,000mAh battery, and features such as Full HD video recording and playback, Wi-Fi, GPS, and the ability to use it as a universal remote control are also listed.

If the image is genuine, and not a specially-created image using typical Samsung packaging design as part of a hoax, it effectively confirms Samsung as preparing at least the higher-specification version of the Galaxy S5 for release. There appears to be no reference to the also-rumored lower-specification model in the photograph.
