Mac Pro shipping times slip to April on global level

updated 09:25 am EST, Tue February 11, 2014

System has always been in small-scale production

Estimated delivery targets for the 2013 Mac Pro have slipped to April in most if not all of the world, reports note. Specifically the delay is affecting Apple's online stores in Canada and the US, and the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and APAC (Asia-Pacific) regions. It's also affecting both stock and custom configurations, although as a rule custom orders always take longer to ship.

The Mac Pro has never been produced in high quantities, requiring most buyers to wait weeks or months for their orders to ship. The computer is assembled in Austin, Texas, making it the only Mac built in the US. It's also Apple's most expensive product, costing at least $2,999.

We ordered a base model plus 4GB extra RAM at 10am on the announcement date. We've been told will ship in February- but don't have any kind of a date. Apple has to know how many machines are in line, and what their production pipeline is. It's incredible that they still can't supply a ship date. We're trying to figure out if we should start our next video project on existing hardware- or wait.
    Totally irresponsible on Apple's side.
