Slow Verizon certification process completes six months after launch

Verizon is finally preparing to offer the Google Nexus 7 on its LTE network, with the tablet going on sale through the carrier from February 13th. Taking place half a year after its launch, the tablet has received LTE certification on the carrier after a prolonged process, with both the Nexus 7 sold through Verizon itself as well as already-owned versions able to use the Verizon's LTE cellular network.

Initial delays in certification were apparently caused through a "systems issue," the carrier revealed in November, with Verizon, Google, and Asus agreeing to put the certification on hold until after Android KitKat was released. Though the exact reason for the fault was not revealed, an apparent fix after the KitKat launch suggests the issue to be purely software-based.

The Nexus 7 on sale from Verizon on Thursday will be the black 32GB LTE model priced at $350, though this will drop down to $250 for customers signing up for a new two-year commitment. Existing Nexus 7 owners will be able to activate the device on the network after a software update, and can add the tablet to a Share Everything plan for an extra $10 per month.
