Apple appoints new HR head; Podolny goes full-time at Apple U

Corporate structure continues to change

Apple has promoted its former VP of global retail, Denise Young Smith, to a new role as the company's head of human resources, Bloomberg says. Smith is replacing Joel Podolny, who will now concentrate exclusively on Apple University. The latter is an internal institution, geared toward indoctrinating executives with the company's unique practices.

Uncharacteristically, Apple has supplied an official statement. "We are excited that Denise Young Smith will expand her role to lead Apple's worldwide human resources organization," writes spokesperson Kristin Huguet. "Apple University is an increasingly important resource within the company as we continue to grow, so Joel Podolny will be focusing full-time on developing and scaling the University he helped establish."

Earlier today it was discovered that Apple's most recent VP of iPad and Mac operations, Rita Lane, has retired. Apple has not said who might be replacing her.
