Ruggedized Ricoh compacts waterproof at depth of 45 feet for two hours

Ricoh has launched a trio of cameras designed for outdoor use, following in the footsteps of the WG-3. The ruggedized WG-4, WG-4 GPS, and the WG-20 are all compact cameras offering IPX8 waterproofing to 14 meters (45 feet) for up to two hours, 10 meters (32 feet) for the WG-20, as well as being dust-proof, shock-resistant, able to survive a weight of up to 100kg (220lb), and resistant to temperatures as low as -10 Centigrade (14 Fahrenheit).

Both the WG-4 and WG-4 GPS have a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor with an extended ISO range of up to 6400. Its four-times zoom lens offers a 35mm equivalent of 25mm to 100mm medium telephoto coverage, and a maximum aperture of F2.0, with a dual shake reduction system and six macro lights to help with clear shots. A total of 29 shooting modes are provided, including 16 scene modes and full HD video recording with a high-speed function, along with a rear 3-inch LCD display. The WG-4 GPS also includes a GPS module for position logging, monitoring pressure and altitude, and a compass.

The WG-20 opts for a lesser 14-megapixel sensor, but offers a 5x optical zoom, and a digital microscope system. Just as with the WG-4, it has a group of five macro lights around the lens, triple anti-shake protection, a rear 2.7-inch display, video recording at 1280x720, face detection and self-portrait assistance, 16 scene modes, and 12 digital filters.

Shipping in March, the WG-20 will cost $200, with the WG-4 and WG-4 GPS priced at $330 and $380 respectively.
