updated 09:44 pm EST, Thu February 6, 2014

Package makes i7 Chromebox available in the US months before other models

Google and HP have teamed for an office communications package featuring Chromebox technology. Google VP of Product Management Caesar Sengupta announced the "Chromebox for Meetings" package, including a Core i7 Chromebox, a HD camera, Bluetooth speaker, and keyboard remote.

Data for the "Chromebox for Meetings" unit is extracted from Google Calendar, with notifications to users when another meeting is approaching. Each meeting box can handle up to 15 connections, which is why the i7 processor is required, according to Google.

The suite is available in the US today, with international availability to come. A single box retails for $999, with a mandatory maintenance fee of $250 per year. Other manufacturers' versions of the suite will be available from Asus and Dell in the future.
