Red Nexus 5 joins white, black versions, sold at same price

Google has released a third color option for its popular Nexus 5 smartphone, with the rumored device fitting alongside its existing black and white-colored offerings. The red version of the LG-produced device has gone on sale through Google Play, with the smartphone sharing the same specification, storage options, and price as its more stand-colored stablemates.

The Nexus 5 offers a 4.95-inch, 1080p IPS display with Gorilla Glass protection, powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26GHz with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. On the back is an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization, and while the front-facing version uses a 1.3-megapixel sensor, it has been colored to match the rest of the case. Running on Android KitKat, it has dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 2,300mAh battery.

Available on Google Play in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, Japan, and Australia, the red Nexus 5 is priced at $349 and $399 for the 16GB and 32GB models respectively. Google Play is also stating a delivery time of a few days for the red device, as opposed to the multiple weeks quoted for the black model.

There is the possibility of more Nexus 5 colors in the future, if a rumor from last month is to be believed. A video obtained by Phone Arena claimed to show the Google Play Store page for the phone with eight colors, including orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple variants alongside the official black, white, and now red. Though it is possibly a faked video, the subsequent release of the red model gives hope to Google releasing other colors of smartphone.
