Rumor of Xbox One without disc drive denied, others still plausible

Microsoft is not working on a cut-price version of the Xbox One game console without a disc drive, a company executive has seemingly confirmed. When asked about rumors of a $399 Xbox One over Twitter, Microsoft Chief of Staff for Devices and Studios group Aaron Greenberg advised "No, you cannot believe everything you read on the Internet."

The Twitter posting goes against recent rumors that the company would release a white Titanfall-themed console, a cheaper version without the Blu-ray drive, and one with a 1TB hard drive, The Escapist reports. The rumors seemingly became more credible after The Verge claimed to have verified the company had been testing versions of the console without the drive, as well as another rumor that there would be a major Xbox One dashboard update in March containing system fixes.

Though Greenberg has denied the cheaper console, it is still possible for the themed and high-capacity storage rumors to be true. Game console producers ship alternative versions throughout the device's life cycle, and in Microsoft's case, it has already released a white Xbox One to staff to thank them for their work at launch.
