Media invited to 'Unpacked 5' Samsung event, Galaxy S5 likely to debut

updated 08:55 pm EST, Mon February 3, 2014

Event held on first day of Barcelona Mobile World Conference

Samsung has invited the media to an event on February 24 that it is calling the "Unpacked 5" event. The event, on the first day of the Mobile World Congress, is intended to debut Samsung's "new flagship product" which is likely to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone.

The timing is similar to last years's late-winter reveal of the Galaxy S4 in New York City. With an April launch of the new phone expected, a February debut seems probable.

A device tested in benchmark suites posted online that is purportedly the Galaxy S5 sports a 2K display outputting at 2560x1440. Other specs for the device include a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, as well as an Adreno 330 GPU. The device is also said to be running Android 4.4 KitKat.
