AT&T offers $100 bill credit for line activations in new promotion

War for customers with T-Mobile intensifies with new offer

AT&T is increasing the amount it is giving to customers to sign up, as well as existing customers, by offering $100 in billing credit for every new line added to an account. The extra credit will be available to both new and existing customers, and is the latest in the continuing aggressive battle for customers between the carrier and T-Mobile.

The new $100 billing credit offer will be added to both new and existing accounts for any new lines for smartphones, tablets, feature phones, mobile hotspots, or Wireless Home Phone service, reports 9to5mac. Though a hefty incentive, customers will not receive the credit immediately, instead receiving it within three billing cycles if their account is in good standing for 45 days. The promotion will be available until March 31st this year.

Potential customers looking towards getting an iPad on AT&T will be able to receive a total of $200 of savings on the carrier, an AT&T spokesperson confirmed to MacRumors. The new $100 offer can be combined with an existing promotion that provides $100 off the price of any tablet when the device is bought through or through AT&T stores.

The carrier is up-front in claiming the offer is a direct attempt to poach subscribers, with chief marketing officer David Christopher stating "This $100 credit is a way we can reward our existing customers who add an additional line of service for their loyalty, and it's an incentive for customers of Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and other wireless carriers to come to AT&T."

The extra $100 credit promotion follows an offer for customers to receive up to $450 in credit for transferring to the carrier from T-Mobile and trading in their old handset. The transfer promotion launched days before a similar offer from T-Mobile, where it offered up to $300 as an instant credit for a device trade-in, as well as up to $350 per line to cover early termination fees.
