Weather-resistant Fujifilm X-T1 ships next month for $1,300

Fujifilm X-T1 boasts unique EVF, manual controls

Fujifilm has launched the X-series interchangeable lens camera it teased earlier this month. The X-T1 is an X-Mount camera that uses a 16.3-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor combined with the EXR II image processor, similar to the retro-inspired X-E2, though it uses an SLR-based design complete with a large assortment of top-mounted manual controls.

On top are controls for the shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, as well as switches for drive modes and metering, and command dials, surrounding a central hump for the 2.36 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder. The EVF boasts a lag-time of 0.005 seconds and a new user interface that provides clear details for shots, as well as a dual-view mode that shows a magnified portion next to the full image to help with manual focusing. On the back is a 3-inch, 1.04-million-dot tilting LCD protected by tempered glass, while the entire body is said to offer resistance to dust, water, and temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 Centigrade).

The X-T1 offers an AF of 0.08 seconds, a shutter lag of 0.05 seconds, a half-second shooting interval, and a 47-frame 8fps burst mode. Sensitivity stretches from ISO 100 to 6,400, though this can be extended to 51,200. Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows for it to be remotely controlled via a smartphone or tablet, as well as to instantly transfer images, and it also offers support for SDXC UHS-II, allowing it to write to compatible memory cards twice as fast as normal SD cards.

Shipping in February, Fujifilm is selling the X-T1 for $1,300 for the body alone, or $1,700 when combined with an 18-55mm f/2.8-4 lens.
