T-Mobile expands reach of Early Termination payment scheme to more carriers

T-Mobile is expanding the reach of its Early Termination Fee (ETF) payment offer to cover more carriers, after seeing high transfers and more than 80,000 "breakup letters" published to social media. The carrier told Re/code that the plan, launched last week and pays up to $350 per line transferred to it, will now be extended to customers of US Cellular and 12 other smaller carriers. T-Mobile will also be expanding the number of handsets that can be traded in, and will also accept damaged phones, though at a lower level of credit.

YouTube will show Super Bowl 2014 commercials before the game

YouTube has revealed it is showing off a number of advertisements from February's Super Bowl, before the event takes place. The popular non-sporting content, viewed more than 265 million times in 2013, will be shown on YouTube's Ad Blitz channel ahead of kick-off, with pre-game teasers and FOX Sports playoff analysis of competing teams in the run-up to the game itself.

    Hopefully T-mobile will rape an already rapacious industry. This may prompt carriers to end Early Termination fees in order to complete.

    Early termination fees are hardly 'rapacious', I do not blame the carriers one bit for expecting users to live up to the terms of the contract especially after having paid a substantial subsidy to Apple for the iPhone. What's rapacious are the new plans they are pushing. In some ways they are simplified - unlimited talk and text for a flat fee per device, plus choose your bucket of data and pay accordingly - but when I compare to my grandfathered ATT plan - 450 min/mo with rollover and unlimited data (throttled after 3gb) - even the cheapest plan has me paying exactly the same and possibly more depending on how much data I buy. Some months I use little data, some months I use a lot. I would gladly go to prepaid but you really pay through the nose for that.

    forgot to add, also they try to rope you into updating your phone every 12 to 18 months so tack on an extra $30 to $45 per month for that. NO THANKS I have a 4s 64gb, it works just great and I would only ever buy it from the Apple Store because I trust their warranty and support a hell of a lot more than I do the warranty from the carrier and the non-support from the salesdouches in the carriers' stores.

    I wish TMO hadn't stuck me with the ETF for dumping them a couple years ago to get an iPhone 5. I'd had the worst cell phone ever made (LG G2X) which besides being poorly manufactured, received zero support from LG and TMO.

    Eh...sold the phone on eBay so out-of-pocket expense wasn't too painful. Love the iPhone 5 and would never consider going back to Android.

    As for LG, don't buy anything they make. The landfills of the world are filled with the garbage spewed out through the years by Lucky Goldstar.
