Samsung reveals Lite version of Galaxy Tab 3 7-inch tablet

Thinner, lighter tablet sacrifices battery, camera resolution

Samsung has launched it a version of its Galaxy Tab range that is claimed to be slimmer and more lightweight than the original version. The Galaxy Tab 3 Lite still manages to offer a 7-inch 1024x600 display within its smaller footprint, though at the same time, Samsung has decided to make a few minor reductions to some of the device's specifications.

Using a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. On the back is a 2-megapixel camera, down from the three in the normal Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, with the Android 4.2 tablet also offering Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. Its 3,600mAh is also down from the 4,000mAh in the original, but this is probably to help it slim down to its 9.7mm (0.38 inches) thickness and 310g (10.9 ounces) weight.

Samsung has yet to reveal a price for the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, but since the normal version sells for $200, this could be similarly priced. A release date for the black and white tablets was not provided either, except that it will be out globally and will be available in Wi-Fi and 3G versions.

It is possible that Samsung will continue working to bring out Lite versions of the rest of the Galaxy Tab 3 range, namely the 8-inch and 10.1-inch models. Rumors also suggest that it will be bringing out Lite models of the Galaxy Note 3. More details could leak out before Mobile World Congress takes place in Barcelona next month.
