Android-based Nokia 'Normandy' resurfaces with cover

Covered Nokia prototype claimed to be rumored Android smartphone

A photograph of a device described as a prototype of Nokia's rumored Android-based smartphone has surfaced. The "engineering prototype" shot of what is alleged to be the Nokia "Normandy" strongly suggests that the smartphone producer is still working on the device, despite the impending purchase of the company's "Devices and Services" business by Microsoft.

The image published on the @seamissu Twitter account, originally from Sina Weibo, seemingly takes a number of cues from earlier "press renders" of the device, complete with the back arrow at the bottom of the screen. Considering the screen merely displays the Nokia logo, and the external design cannot be seen underneath a bulky cover, there is little to use to confirm the device in the photograph's authenticity.

If Normandy is still being developed by Nokia, it could possibly make an appearance at Mobile World Congress late next month. Rumors remain light on specifications for the rumored device, but it is thought that it will be similar to a low-cost Asha device, and its dual SIM card slot option suggesting a release in emerging markets.
