'Lite' version of Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 shows up in pictures

Lower-specced Galaxy Note 3 could sport six-core processor

Samsung is said to be working on a "Lite" version of its Galaxy Note 3 smartphone, and new images have emerged online showing off what appears to be just that rumored device. Samsung-devoted site SamMobile published this week the new images of the device, showing off a handset slightly smaller than the top-line version of Samsung's hot-selling oversized smartphone. Reportedly, the device will not pack the "Lite" moniker when it launches, as Samsung may instead opt to dub it the "Galaxy Note Neo."

The Note 3 Lite/Neo, according to some reports, will justify the "Lite" part of its name by packing lower-power specifications than the flagship Note 3 handset. Reportedly, Samsung will give the device a hexa-core processor, with two 1.7GHz cores and four 1.3GHz cores, making it a first in the smartphone industry. This arrangement could well make its way into other devices.

The device would also pack a 5.55-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, as well as an 8-megapixel camera, the same as the Galaxy Note II had. Inside, it would have a 3,100mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage, expandable by microSD slot. Samsung would distinguish it from its older sibling, though, by giving it the same Air Command and Advanced Multi Window features seen with the Galaxy Note 3, as well as the faux-leather background and design of the Note 3. It would also apparently have a smaller footprint than the Note 3 and Note II, as evidenced by the leaked images.

Reportedly, the lower-specced new Note will come in an HSPA+ variant, as well as an LTE version. Pricing and availability will likely remain unknown until Samsung reveals the device, which could happen as early as February at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
