Chug Plug universal 65W battery pack adds hours to MacBook use

Accessory maker Lenmar has unveiled the Chug Plug, a universal 65W power pack that works with all recent models of MacBook by attaching to the "duck head" portion of a Mac charger, providing power where none is available for up to four hours (depending on use, screen brightness and other factors) of additional power. The user's charger fits to one end of the battery pack, while the "duck head" and cable can recharge the battery by plugging into the left side. The unit is available now, and retails for $160.

Confide aims to be the 'Snapchat' of text messages

A new messaging app for iOS devices claims to implement the kind of "delete on read" and end-to-end encrypted communication channel that initially made Snapchat so popular -- but with additional features to prevent screenshot captures or other ways recipients could retain the messages. Confide (free) requires users pass their finger over the screen to reveal the text messages, and deletes them as they are read. Notifications are sent to the sender upon being read or if the recipient has managed to capture the message. In addition, the app connects to recipients by email rather than phone numbers. Both senders and recipients must have the app installed to send or receive messages.

The service was said to be inspired by a desire among the two founders to have a chat about a third person, but of a sensitive nature that they didn't want to commit to text or email. By the time both were available for the meeting, six days had elapsed. The company says the real value of the app is not with teens but with professionals who want to conduct confidential conversations without having to find time for a face-to-face conference.
