New charge case and stand for latest iPads debut from iPort

Inductive charger works with case, Smart Cover to provide power, protection

Mobile device accessory company iPort showed off its latest products, the iPad Charge Case and Stand, at the Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday. The case and stand work together to wirelessly charge the various new iPad models while in use or idling on a multi-position stand using the protective back covering -- which works with Apple's Smart Cover if desired. Magnets in the case ensure that the iPad is positioned for charging when in the stand.

The case and part of the stand also act as sound re-directing wave guides, pointing audio output more directly at the user. The back case need never be removed in normal use, and is required in order to use the charging stand. Its 12W output charges the iPads about twice as fast as Apple's own 5W power adapter. When the accompanying stand isn't available (such as on-the-go), the case includes access to the Lightning port for traditional charging. The stand features three positions for typing, video-watching and portrait use.

The new iPad Air and Retina iPad mini versions of the Charge Case and Stand are expected to ship next month, and are available for pre-order now. The combo for the Retina and non-Retina iPad mini cost $100, while pricing for fourth-generation or iPad Air model cost $120.
