Motorola event invitation hints at UK, European Moto X launch

updated 05:18 am EST, Wed January 8, 2014

Flagship Motorola handset could cross Atlantic in near future

Motorola has sent out invitations to members of the press in the United Kingdom for a London-based event, at the same time as expanding the coverage of Android 4.4.2 on the Moto G. The invitation, set for January 14th, promises to announce a "new addition to the European Motorola family of products," and though the invitation does not directly state what is being revealed, it is likely that the company will be bringing the Moto X to the continent.

The Moto X has mostly remained only in North America, with the budget Moto G instead being released in Europe first before reaching the US later. The invitation does suggest a launch of the Moto X in Europe, if only due to the appearance of either the Moto X or Moto G in the background. As the invitation suggests three different briefing times over the course of the day, it is unlikely to be for a brand new, unreleased product.

In a separate news update, Motorola has started to push an update to Android 4.4.2 to the Moto G in the United Kingdom and Germany. Phone Arena reports phone owners in the two countries have been receiving the updates, weighing in at 174MB, which introduces a new gallery, Google Cloud Print, updated Hangouts, and other changes.
