US Staples stores begin carrying iPads, following online sales

Expands relationship, expected to follow Canadian Staples model

While the Canadian version of Staples has been selling Apple iPads and related iOS accessories for nearly two years, the US version of the office supply chain only began offering the tablets through its website last October. Today, however, the relationship with Apple expanded into offering the latest iPad models in US Staples stores, starting today. The chain also carries Apple-branded and third-party accessories such as the Apple TV and Airport models.

The US stores will likely follow the Canadian model and offer iPads in a dedicated kiosk, with larger stores perhaps opting for miniature "store within a store" concept that groups all the Apple products and accessories together. Staples originally started selling Apple TV and other accessories in its US stores last spring, but the fall iPad online-only trial was apparently a test to hit certain sales and referral targets, one that Staples apparently passed.

Currently, stores are said to be offering only the latest models, the full-size iPad Air and the Retina iPad mini. Apple may add the still-sold iPad 2 and non-Retina iPad mini at some point in the future.
